Texas Outlaw K Phillips is coming to Nashville!

Hailing from Austin, TX and bringing with them the howling ghosts of music's past, K PHILLIPS could be the most underrated live band in America today. A stage veteran throughout the south, K Phillips is appearing in his fifth Outlaw Roadshow - and our first here in Nashville. We really want to knock over audiences and this is a stellar way to do it. Prepared to be touched by this guy's music and his ramshackle Rimbaud-inspired poetry.

Expect quiet moments and huge, soaring jams - all inspired by stories of lost love and nights out looking for trouble. Whiskey-in-hand, I will be right there with you, in the front row of one of America's best live sets. The Outlaw Roadshow welcomes K back with open arms!

Boston's Parlour Bells to rock The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville!

Parlour Bells are all about the mood and the excitement. Having seen the project unfold from a duo to a full band, with all players dedicated to the explosion that occurs on stage, I fully suspect that the Parlour Bells set could end up being one of the most talked about at this year's Outlaw Roadshow Nashville

At the core of at all is the showman Glenn di Benedetto, whose fearless stage presentations (celebratory of Greg Dulli and David Bowie's lyrical content and ferocious in intensity like Perry Farrell) will mesmerize our audiences.

Parlour Bells co-founder Nate Leavitt is something like a New England rock god, bringing the rock guitar and a whole lot more to a handful of outstanding music projects. Magen Tracy, Brendan Boogie and Paul Myers - each adept professionals in their own right, round out the band. This powerful combination makes Parlour Bells something of a Boston-area Super Band! Parlour Bells play the Friday night 7/17. This should be one hell of an amazing ride!

American Idol's Morgan Ovens joins The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville!

“My whole life I’ve been doing music - I’ve never had a Plan B.” Those are the words spoken by Morgan Ovens as she addressed the judges on last season's American Idol.

Singularly focused on her music, Morgan has embarked on this perilous journey (professional music) armed with undeniable talent and unending charm. Her songs reflect her strength and integrity but in that voice; delivered in those lyrics are her surrender to  and in those lyrics are her softer side. It's easy to understand how so many can find common ground with her music. This is Morgan Ovens' first ever appearance on The Outlaw Roadshow. Ovens plays Nashville on Saturday 7/18. Be prepared for a strong, country-tinged pop set that will probably melt your heart.

Meet Morgan Ovens - Hailing from snowy Canada, Morgan took a giant leap and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at 18 years old to pursue her career in country music. She was quickly signed to an independent label, and jumped headfirst into writing and recording her first EP. Yet in the midst of making music videos, photo shoots, and working with some of the top people in the music industry, she felt like something was missing. She started to feel a yearning to head out West.

Not one to ignore her intuition, Morgan moved to Los Angeles, California, with the hope of not only finding her sound, but finding herself. Days spent oceanside writing lyrics in a journal turned into open mic nights throughout Venice Beach and West Hollywood, and the rebirth of her music began to sound like the love child of Tove Lo and Alanis Morrissette.

Since then, Morgan has been unstoppable, headlining her own tour in China, getting booked for numerous residency gigs throughout Southern California, and becoming a contestant on American Idol last season, where she got a unanimous “yes” from those judges. Morgan is currently in the studio, sometimes accompanied by her Great Dane pup, working on her first pop album.

Buffalo Rodeo joins the Outlaw Roadshow Nashville!

Somewhere on the outskirts of reality, the denizens of that edge world need music. Soft and full of light, this place deserves someone like Buffalo Rodeo to play for their. Ethereal sounds echoing of early Pink Floyd stirred with the modern, rock quirk of Tame Impala - there is a perfect balance here. (Think Brian Jonestown Massacre without all that heaviness.) Every few years we get to work with the provocateurs of these psychedelic waters. Not since Puerto Rico's Fantasmes graced the Outlaw stage in Austin TX in 2012, have I felt so strongly about a band in this category, however. Buffalo Rodeo are gifted everything and nothing all at once and that's exactly what we need! Welcome to The Outlaw Roadshow.

Formed around 2008 in a music-thirsty gulch of the hills of Bowling Green, KY around the likes of Cage the Elephant, Sleeper/Agent, and Morning Teleportation, Buffalo Rodeo has worked tirelessly as an independent band securing shows at festivals such as Riot Festival (Chicago), Moontower Music Festival, The Big To-Do Festival, Starry Nights Music & Arts Festival as well as booking tours and traveling through most of the eastern half of the United States. Comprised of original members Nate Davis (guitar), Zach Preston (vocals), and Ryan Gilbert (drums), Buffalo Rodeo added Jordan Reynolds (keys, vocals) in 2012 along with Patrick Duncan (bass) and Kevin Creambus (van) the following year to result in a road-hungry combination ready to bring vibrations to all the right eardrums.

The band's latest release, "123 Water" is what you're listening to and is completely worth every second of your time. I would recommend you not miss the band's set with us in Nashville on Friday 7/17.

Midnite on Pearl Beach to breakout at The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville!

BREAKING OUT - One of the music acts I am the most excited to see in Nashville this year is Midnite On Pearl Beach. The Chicago-by-way-of-Louisiana band have a really fantastic pop sensibility, an even better sense of rhythm and flow - and at the heart of it all are the vocals and creative wit of Justin Jahnke.. a gifted, vastly under-celebrated musician who has definitely made my life better the last few years. Now it's your turn..

A mainstay on my weekly radio program, these layered tracks provide cinematic backdrops for listeners - one after the next; an almost impossible feat when most people aren't constructing records any longer. The upcoming LP, Scrowlers, is set for release this fall.  Get ready to be blown away by this band in their first ever Outlaw Roadshow appearance on Saturday 7/18.

"We are pushers of the rock 'n roll junk cart, purveyors of dusty soul, and peddlers of hazy psychedelia, " writes Jahnke in our email about the band's set in Nashville. "Midnite on Pearl Beach is alive, real, and deep."

Diana DeMuth to play The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville!

I recently recorded one of my favorite Roadshow Radios in Boston a few weeks ago when the globetrotting Diana DeMuth was passing through town.

DeMuth is perhaps most well known to the world for her appearance on television's The X-Factor, but since that time she has gone on to craft one of the best pop albums of 2015. Albuquerque is a collection of ten different stories and emotions woven beautifully together.

When Diana appeared on the radio studio, she and I ended up gabbing about good whiskey, shared stories from the road and somehow got into tattoo talk! Despite all the distractions, she did perform for our live radio audience.. and we eventually got to talking about her songs..  Especially important to DeMuth? The role of songwriting in her music.
"My music has and will always be about the narrative. I love the challenge of trying to capture a different emotion each time I write a song," DeMuth quips. "My favorite part of the record is that no two songs are about the same thing."

Meet The Artist - Diana DeMuth is a folk/rock musician originally from Boston, MA. She began singing, writing, and playing guitar at the age of thirteen and recorded her first EP at fourteen. After attending school in Oregon, DeMuth returned home to work with distinguished producer Alain Mallet on her debut album. Albuquerque incorporates her soulful and intimate sound with unique arrangements.

Dogs - new from FEINTS

Rock 'n Roll is all about great sound, but it's even more about having fun. With that in mind, I share with you a new music video from the band in the room having the most fun with their project. FEINTS are a Boston music outlet that perform howling throwback rock and with each new project, each turning of the screw they are indeed having a whole lot of fun with their music.

Yes, that's right - a bunch of rockers singing and acting like man's best friend and having the time of their lives. The dog-lovin' FEINTS are Amy Douglas (Vox, Keys), Dave Baron (All Guitars) Rob Phillips (Bass) Tim Marten (Drums).

A Word or Two From The Band - "Dogs" honors and champions all things canine, but ultimately speaks to the need in all living things, no less us humans, to be loved, sheltered and cared for. Dogs is fully intended to be the greatest anthemic love song written, for dogs. The video, directed by FEINTS's own bass wielding-co-producing powerhouse Rob Phillips, with extra assistance from Boston Photo-god Derek Kouyoumjian is a fun ride with adorable pooches and of course, the animal that is...FEINTS.

The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville welcomes Cory Branan to our lineup

We keep a lot of secrets right until the last minute with The Outlaw Roadshow. It makes for a lot of suspense and real magic for our music fans, but this is really no secret.. It's quite possible that CORY BRANAN is one of the most talented, crowd-challenging music geniuses to ever take one of our stages. There are fewer modern examples of an artist with a foot in so many worlds and the clear ability for their creator to make it all happen live. This is a set not to be missed.

No one said it better than Noisey writer Ron Knox;
"For people who have followed his career, Branan is maddening. He radiates talent. He’s a powerful songwriter, a world-class guitar player, a singer with enough melody and grit to please the ear and stick to bones. He crafts complex songs, toying with structures and characters in ways most songwriters never consider, let alone have the guts to commit to record. His choices often come at the expense of pop sensibility that would actually, you know, sell those records.. Over his sometimes inglorious career, he’s built a network of admirers, mainly in the punk world, who are drawn to his songs primarily because they are uncompromising and rewarding through patience. The genius is there—it’s always been there—but only now has Branan found an industry niche willing to accept his music and not try to shoehorn him into some false archetype in which he’s always refused to fit."  [full story]
And there we have it. Cory Branan is too good to be true and he is, as of today, an Outlaw.

"With one foot planted in the blue-collar alt-country of Steve Earle and the other in the ragged folk-punk of Chuck Ragan's Revival Tour, Branan stretches his songs to their near-breaking points."  - Rolling Stone magazine

MEET THE MAN - Throughout his career, Branan has been too punk for country, too country for punk, too Memphis for Nashville, and probably a little too Cory Branan for anyone’s damn good. He has proven himself as a top-notch songwriter (Chuck Ragan recently called him “the greatest songwriter of our generation”), fierce lyricist (in Lucero’s “Tears Don’t Matter Much” they sing that Cory has, “a way with words that’ll bring you to your knees”), and a hyperdynamic performer with the ability to fingerpick finer than ‘60s Greenwich Village folkies and brutally strum like a proto punk shredder.

New York's Matt Sucich to play The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville

Over the course of the last three years, New York troubadour Matt Sucich has become a central player in The Outlaw Roadshow family - playing our stages, attending our shows and supporting our community. And along the way, Matt's musical prowess and storytelling have only improved and today, he is a force to be reckoned with.

"Whenever he's on stage, Matt Sucich strikes a balance between light-hearted, straightforward humor and profound, evocative lyrics. He's a storyteller with the ability to turn a string of metaphors and similes into images and ideas that linger long after the song ends." - Pam Segura, Pancakes & Whiskey

About the Video:
Squarespace Sessions at Heartbreaker Banquet.
Produced by Robot Fondue and Electric Lady Studios
in partnership with Paste Magazine.

ABOUT MATT - Aside from performing regularly at home in New York City, Sucich (pron: sue-sitch) has also set foot on some pretty exciting stages across the U.S. including the Heartbreaker Banquet in Austin, TX, Firefly Music Festival in Dover, PA, Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN, Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY, and many others.

ELEL bring heat to The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville

ELEL Bring the Hometown Magic!

NASHVILLE - I believe in music - and in the majesty of life. It was a cold morning this January when I hauled myself behind the wheel of a car headed to Logan Airport in Boston. On the way, literally just before I parked the car - a new artist named ELEL played upon my radio. From Nashville - my destination - they sparked my interest. Flash forward to my street-walking adventures in Nashville. It was January and (being from Boston) I was the only one not wearing a coat. The very first band I ran into during my venue tours in the city of Nashville, was ELEL. This all was just meant to be. And you're going to be glad for it..

Nashville 8-piece ELEL had an exciting year. Their debut track ” 40 Watt”, an effervescent blast of feel good indie pop, drew comparisons to the likes of Vampire Weekend and MGMT, winning over a slew of blogs, radio stations (Sirius XM's Alt Nation, WFUV, KCRW) and affording them the opportunity to perform at Bonnaroo Festival, SXSW and Treefort Music Festival. The band are set to release their debut full-length LP on Mom + Pop Music.

Album / Web / Fb / Tw

ELEL, consisting of two horns, two drums, three keys ,guitar, bass and whole lot of vocals, was born from front man Ben Elkins (of Heypenny *listen) meeting a girl named Eliska. Ben’s now wife softened his edges while introducing him to the likes of Beach House and Toro Y Moi. Speaking on ELEL, Ben says “ It’s the outcome of me producing music that risks leaving space and communicates emotion easily and softly.” This band represents a new start for its members. Tied together by the bustling Nashville music scene but from an array of locations, ELEL includes Ben (Arkansas), Zach (Kentucky), Tim (Mississippi), Jo Jo (Queens, NY), Alex (Pennsylvania), and life-long Nashvillians (so far) Frederick, Jerry and Stefan. According to Ben, “40 Watt is a big loud dance song about dancing with one other person in a little bitty house.’

Chicago's Fort Frances to play The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville

FORT FRANCES are headed to Nashville! Having spent a lot of time listening to innumerable artist submissions over the years, this is one of the bands I keep coming back to. The sound and emotion generated on stage by this powerhouse trio continues to win us over. After killing it at our shows in other cities and sharing hugs with our audiences, I'm thoroughly convinced - as you will be, that this is one of the very best live acts in America today.

"50 Great Bands You Should Know" - WXRT Chicago

Fort Frances' new album is, No One Needs to Know Our Name. Yes, it's an odd title for an record considering most independent bands are doing everything possible to win exposure. It’s more of a personal manifesto of this band. In an age of hyper-connectivity and public oversharing, frontman and chief lyricist, David McMillin, says, “This is a reminder that we are all allowed to shut out the noise.” Fort Frances is McMillin, Aaron Kiser and Jeffrey Piper.

Music / Web / Fb / Tw / Daytrotter

We are absolutely delighted to have Fort Frances join us at the very first Outlaw Roadshow Nashville. They will play day two: Saturday, July 18 of our two-day, free music extravaganza in America's Music City. This is going to be very, very good!
