Alan Semerdjian and Friends - The Outlaw Roadshow Video Session!

Alan Semerdjian is a poet, a teacher, a consummate live performer and the embodiment of everything aesthetically we're trying to do with The Outlaw Roadshow

Alan is joined in this season by an incredible all-star lineup making this session an unbelievable treat for the senses. Mike Bloom (Jenny Lewis, Julian Casablancas and The Elected), Dave Diamond (Assembly of Dust) and Matt Iselin (Half Step). Semerjian is, of course, a repeat customer. But 2016 marks the first time these three,  other fine gentlemen have appeared on our Outlaw stages and in our videos. This is a trip!

Bloom, Iselin and Diamond previously worked with Semerdjian to craft his latest album, Quiet Songs for Loud Times. That album offers stunningly beautiful songs and a gorgeous, rolling emotional tide, some of which makes an appearance here in this video session. The artists are flanked here by the creations of painter Felipe Molina.

Pat McGee Band - The Outlaw Roadshow Video Session!

There were tons of surprises in store for us in New York at this year's Outlaw Roadshow. But none, perhaps, more pleasant than having Pat McGee and the Band come in and sit down for a session and a few laughs. Pat's incredible and his music is capable of transforming the room. You only get that good after relentlessly performing. Pat has toured for the last ten years all over the United States (according to his website: he even did a 98 show-stand in a 103 day-stretch, which is utterly insane.) The results here speak for themselves: This is a band of consummate performers.

This dude's the real deal - and a real cool cat to talk with. To have him sit in for us, was - needless to say, a huge treat. What a great band! I loved every minute of it.  This intimate look at the band surrounded by the art of painter Felipe Molina provides the perfect stage for discovery.

One of the rising stars in East Coast music, Morningsiders have made a name for themselves through crafting soaring moments in music - characterized with gorgeous instrumentation and layered vocal harmonies. Their strong emphasis on storytelling and place-setting moments are perfectly captured in this live session video captured just a few short weeks ago in New York City.

This intimate look at the band surrounded by the art of painter Felipe Molina provides the perfect stage for discovery. We cannot wait to work with this band again. Hope you just found a new favorite!

Sharon Jones has died

One of the greatest live performers of this era, I was lucky enough to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings perform a number of times. She was a light in the room and the world is much worse off without her. A woman of color who worked her entire life to create opportunities, she was born again at the age of 40, when her singer career reached international renown. She was great and still very much an inspiration.

Sharon Jones, dead at 40 due to pancreatic cancer. Rest in peace Sharon. You were truly great.

Meet The Outlaws - The Rationales

The Rationales headline our Toronto lineups.

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - Our House Band of 2016, it's hard not to fail in line for a Rationales show. Their set in New York City last month was jaw-dropping and quite possibly their best ever live performance. The band have been pumping out great  Americana Rock for the better part of the last decade and in that time the band have only gotten better at making heartfelt, blue-collar rock. At the core of the band is the songwriting of creator David Mirabella who channels the 'everyman' in his tales of love lost and tough times. This is very personal, very real and embracing rock n roll. Recommended for fans of WILCO.

The Sound! - The Rationales offer swirling, atmospheric rock, blistering guitar, killer lap steel, romanticized piano and a place-setting rhythm section: Mike Mirabella, Sean Black, Chad Raleigh, Adam Hand and Dave Lieb round out the lineup, which this writer has a hard-time not describing as the best rock band in Boston music today.

Meet The Outlaws - Skunkmello

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - Sometime over the last two years, Skunkmello have not-so-quietly triumphed, becoming one of the best rock bands in the American Northeast. Powered by a foot-stomper of a live record in "Hot Chicken," this Outlaw Roadshow mainstay has tromped all over the land leaving heartbroken ladies and penniless lads in their wake. There's pretty much no way you can avoid being impacted by this music. This is some really damn catchy stuff! So much so that Adam Duritz put the band on his 2016 summer mix, a limited press run CD that went to all Counting Crows VIP guests on tour this year.

And, no band has played more Outlaw Roadshows dates in 2015-2016 than this band. Capacity shows in New York, Nashville, Austin and now Toronto. And the reasons for this are undeniable: Charismatic live rock sets with swirling blues and copious amounts of fun. Expect soaring rock epiphanies that can carry well into the night.

BEST OF 2016 Album Selection - A record more than two years in the making, "Hot Chicken" was the next logical step for a band fixated on performance. Expanding their pallet to both louder and quieter places, Skunkmello have found their place at the foot of greatness.

Meet The Outlaws - Caleb Lovely

Outlaw Caleb Lovely is One To Watch!

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - Undoubtedly, one of the biggest wins to come out of The Outlaw Roadshow Nashville was the set of Caleb Lovely. Responsible for one of the guttiest, most heartfelt performances delivered to our audiences this year, Lovely is young - but, indeed, no stranger to the stage. For years, he has worked his craft and tightened his phrase. Along the way, Caleb earned a large international following who hang on every word delivered. That was certainly the case in Nashville; meaning all kinds of people who had never heard the man sing left with a new favorite pop singer. We couldn't have been happier and immediately signed him up to play shows in Toronto.

To that end, I am delighted to announce that Caleb Lovely has been invited to play more lineups in Toronto than any band in IndieWeek history. Find out what this guy is all about. Certainly One to Watch!

Meet The Outlaws - Molehill

Chicago provides us another stellar sound... it's Molehill!

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - The Outlaw Roadshow has a celebrated history of holding-aloft great Chicago bands and we're more than happy to uphold the tradition this year in Toronto. Molehill are the ultimate live sound.. with huge rock epithanies and emotion curled up in every note, their stage is the foundation of a live night full of memories. The fact their sound is mountainous, the name is a clever cut, an irony not lost on the listener.

Lyrically important, and perfectly aligned - this is a band's band. Peter Manhart, Trevor Jones, Greg Van Zuiden and Devin Staples round out the mainstay alternative band, who have made a name for their epic, late night sets in The Windy City. Get ready to be amazed!

Meet The Outlaws - Sulfur City

The Next Sound from The Outlaw Roadshow... it's Sulfur City!

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - For the regular listeners to The Outlaw Roadshow radio program, this one's no surprise.. I'm so excited to share one of one of my favorite sounds of 2016 and a staple on our weekly show. Sulfur City play their first Outlaw Roadshow next week in Toronto, bringing both sides of their sound: a post-punk blues stomp and their equally amazing improvisational jazz rock grooves. The two worlds are proven to co-exist on one stage. This listener likens it to frenetic hard blues shaken up in the repertoire of a sick world band.

Think Eric Burdon and War (on vinyl, of course) on a hot summer night. Just so unexpected and, just so, .. perfect!

Best Of 2016 Album Nomination - In May, Sulfur City released new album, Talking Loud (via Alive Natural Sound) and it's been on heavy rotation in both my car and my head ever since. The attachment of the Alive Natural Sound name is not something to be sneezed at.. (Hacienda, Black Keys, Hollis Brown, Buffalo Killers, Radio Moscow and James Leg - amongst many, many others!)

Meet The Outlaws - Devil Met Contention

INTRODUCTIONS ARE IN ORDER - One of the most mesmerizing new sounds to meet my ears in 2016.. This is Devil Met Contention from Milwaukee, WI. Their southern Gothic Rock sound swirls in the same circles as earthy westerns, but this isn't something from your granddaddy's music collection! Devil Met Contention combines the old sounds of country, folk and blues and blend them into something new and dark and beautiful..

Their latest, Fuel The Lights, is a gorgeous telling of love lost and new pathways ahead. The next destination for these showmen will be The Outlaw Roadshow Toronto during IndieWeekGet down with this band's dark Americana, pick up a copy of their new record and see them next week for yourself!

Recommended for Fans of Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Johnny Cash. "Mesmerizing stuff," said Outlaw Roadshow Executive Producer Ryan Spaulding. "You're going to love these guys. We play them all the time on Outlaw Roadshow Radio and now we can bring them to our live stage in Toronto."
