Another Loss for Big Star
I always hate running these short, reflective by hardly worthy reminders of great, relevant lives as they are claimed. Yesterday we learned that Big Star bassist Andy Hummel had passed away at 59 - as a result of his fight against cancer.
Hummel was diagnosed with the disease in 2008 and has since done what he can to stay involved musically. He was set to reunite Big Star at the SxSW Music Festival this spring... Only for the band to learn that Alex Chilton had died in New Orleans just days before - preventing a proper reunion. On March 30, 2010 Big Star staged a celebration of Chilton's life at Antone's in Austin, TX. Our photos are here: Alex Chilton Show.
