M. Roosevelt
From the Mailbag
So, here's the deal. I can't begin to listen to, digest or publish everything we receive. About once or twice a month in 2013, I'll open new mail - and so long as the stuff is potentially of interest to our music-crazed audiences, we'll publish it. It gives everyone - no matter who you are, what kind of music you make, no matter your budget, a chance to reach our audience.
MEET THE MAN - M. Roosevelt is the stage/creative name for Mike Rasimas (The Worthies, Rotten Jazz Quartet) from White Plains, NY. Rasimas just wrapped up "Bummerang," (name your price) his latest M. Roosevelt song project. It's got elements of shoegaze, dissonant rock, and popular music. Perhaps the strongest elements of these records are Rasimas' aggressive, nearly progressive changes that hammer the listener throughout.
Each song is an adventure: whether telling the simple story of rising to meet a new day, or acting as a cinematic backdrop for a video game-like drama, this music is entertaining. Rasimas' voice is vulnerable and real and at some points in these songs he reminds me a great deal of David Lowery, whose best stuff coincidentally (see The Palace Guards) was similarly reaching for something else. Give this project a listen!
