Pop Culture & Cartoons...
I think each generation has its own pop culture memories... Our own public service announcements, Saturday morning cartoons, and iconic holiday specials. Alvin, Simon and Theodore were that for me. The Chipmunks, as silly as Tom & Jerry (cat and mouse)and inane as (the pesky crows) Heckyl and Jekyll, were special. In retrospect, I suppose it could have been that the trio were different because of their relationship with their human benefactor, Dave. In this way we saw the chipmunks are more mischievous children - rather than magical animals or a two dimension cartoon. (It also helped, for my child's mind, that the Chipmunks were musically inclined.) Maybe it's all those things... I was very glad to discover that Boston's own Oranjuly had opted into an Alvin & the Chipmunks Christmas cover.
