The Walkmen at the Middle East

Going Out / Weekend Edition!

Two Nights @ The Middle East

SUNSHINE: This Friday and Saturday night the Middle East welcomes New York’s excellent The Walkmen (musical excellence) for two shows. Formed in 2000 by members of Jonathan Fire*Eater and The Recoys, The Walkmen’s rise has been steady and unshakable.

This five-piece band make music with old and sometimes rickety instruments that come to life before us. Vocalist Hamilton Leithauser sings in this same drifting, lilting and low-pitched tone – it is a voice reminiscent not only of singers from the 50s, but sometimes of more contemporary performers like Matt Berninger of The National.

The Walkmen’s vintage sound, built on tube amps and spring reverbs, is warm and friendly still yet somehow distant, like listening to great music played outside in the night air.

Listening to their show in the confines of the Middle East downstairs should make for an interesting spin on the band’s style. Also appearing both nights are two highly touted indie acts: Here We Go Magic and The Dig. Having just recently seen The Dig play an incredible set in town recently [and here are the photos] all we can say is that these two nights should be amongst the best this entire season. The Middle East 8pm Doors Fri & Sat / 18+ / $15. Don’t miss out.
