(New) Adventures of The Black and White Years

New Music this Week!
A Band You Should Know

The Black and White Years

One of our favorite acts right now (notable dates at Austin City Limits Music Festival, Wireless Music Festival in London, MIDEM in Cannes, CMJ Music Marathon, and the past three South By Southwest Music Festivals) calls Austin, TX, home. The Black and White Years - made a staggeringly quick 2-year ascension and we ended up naming the eponymous debut, one of the best records of 2008. The band's hyper-energetic, jangle matches perfectly their odd sense of humor and quirky, intelligent lyrics.

Earlier this year, the Austin Music Awards recognized the band’s local accomplishments by rewarded them with five awards including trophies for Best New Band and Best Song for their single, “Power to Change,” Best Performing Band – Rock and Best Bass Player (John Aldridge.) In addition, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads, Modern Lovers) won the award for Best Producer of the Year for his work on BAWY's debut LP.

A new EP called "Nursery Myths" is available online and through a physical CD purchase (comes with a digital download). The self-produced, 5-track album was completed with the help of Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in Austin. The Black and White Years report work is already underway to complete their sophomore album due next year.
