Buffalo Killers

BANDS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
The Buffalo Killers - Cincinnati, OH

Brothers Andrew and Zachary Gabbard and drummer Joseph Sebaali are one of the most rocking bands on the road this year. The Buffalo Killers caught the ear of the Black Crowes a few years back and opened dates for the band in 2007. At this point the BKs are touring behind, "Let It Ride," their 2008 record produced by highly acclaimed Cincinnati solo artist Dan Auerbach (best known still for his work in The Black Keys). Early influenced for the Gabbard brothers include Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, CSNY and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Themes from these artists persist on this latest album, which at 10 songs and 44 minutes - is a succinct but dizzying package of southern-influenced guitar rock and indie soul. This is mood music for the 21st Century. Give a listen....

While on tour with The Black Crowes, Buffalo Killers wrote half of what would become Let It Ride. The band entered the studio, with Black Keys guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach serving as producer, immediately following the tour. The recording session took "only a few days", according to Auerbach, who downplayed his role in making the album. "These are the kind of guys that don't need a lot of help when it comes to making records or sparking their imagination." Auerbach felt his most important contribution was in capturing "the raw live sound of this band".
