ON THE ROAD - Unfortunately it's not all that unique of a story... A band gets signed to a big label, releases an album and then gets dropped right as that material is about to be released. (Or in the case of two of my favorite Boston bands in the late 1990s; Talking to Animals and Splashdown, the labels produced each band's first album but never release them. -- Not that I'm still bitter or anything.) The road is music success is rife with ways to fail - you get the idea...

WE LOVE THIS STORY - So with all this in mind, it was inspiring to get to see Los Angeles' Bleu (a former Boston artist) finally release his A Watched Pot album this week. Back in 2005 he was all set to share the album with the world but found himself dropped from Aware (a Columbia Records imprint) along with other artists and employees during a period of "reorganization" on the label. Read the full tale of how "A Watched Pot" finally came to be on Bleu's community site.

BACKGROUND & BONUS MATERIAL - Bleu called Boston home for a time during which he attended Berklee classes and then for several years afterwards. He ended up relocating to Los Angeles in 2006. Bleu's farewell show in Boston happened on the same night and stage that saw the birth of Boston Rock 'n Roll spectacles Bang Camaro. Here are some of my photos from that night.

BACK IN BOSTON - Bleu will be back in town to celebrate the release of A Watched Pot on Friday, July 24th at TT The Bear's Place joined by Hooray for Earth, Air Traffic Controller and Count Zero. Get there early -- the incredible Count Zero goes on at 9.
