RUMBLE NIGHT ONE - The Luxury Win with a Huge Performance

Photography and Videos by Sooz

ANGELINE: What a sensational night of live music, kicking off this week-long anarchy in Boston. The sophisticated and upbeat sound of modern indie folk rockers Angeline lead off the show. We loved the three-part harmony and those guitars. And, I can't remember the last time I have even seen an electric violin, let alone heard one! Great performance! Angeline started the night off but found themselves playing for a completely packed crowd at the Middle East.

RUMBLE PERFORMANCE!

We loved the fact that the building was rockin' - packed to the gills for all of the acts. Angeline was the beneficiary of a crowd hungry for a great live performance. They warmed up the crowd for glam rock/modern mood rockers Logan 5 and the Runners!

LOGAN 5 and the RUNNERS: This set really kicked the evening into high gear and convinced how good this band (with their new CD) really are! Playing against a red backlit stage, Mike DeLisle's bass prodded the audience to begin swaying from the very beginning. Nick Balkin played a great counter on guitar, ripping it up throughout the show. By the time that Chris Barrett's added keyboards - the place was full of energy. David Berndt does his Pulp/Blur/Bowie-esque slow verbal assault and people suddenly know what this group - the biggest "vibe" band in the city, are all about. Definitely worth your attention, L5ATR are a band on the rise!

There was a palpable level of excitement in the air now! The guys from Logan 5 broke down their equipment only for the audience to see what looked to be an entire music store's worth of amps and gear come on. An Orange stack and lots of equipment signaled the coming of The Deal!

THE DEAL: This bawdy rock and roll band from Waltham didn't take long to show what they were made of! Songs were tight and precise but equally loud throughout. Once they had the crowd's attention, these Waltham natives even launched into a near-perfect Van Halen cover then went on to mesmerize the audience with a two-guitar performance with an intro on a prop guitar-stand. (This is another thing I have never seen before on stage!) The Deal's ability to rock is unquestionable!

The crowd was ready to party. We forgot at this point that it was a Sunday night and that a new work week was about to call. It was almost midnight and all I could think about was getting a whiskey drink before The Luxury took the stage. What we all wanted was a blistering set. Little did we know that the band was about to play a simply outstanding rock performance in front of a Rumble audience!

THE LUXURY: If you're going to have your best show ever, it might as well be in a battle of the bands competition in front of a hometown crowd... I have seen The Luxury a handful of times and I have never seen them sound any better or look more confident than they did last night! From the first song through a maze of rock tracks to the slow closer, which again ascended with the crowd's mood - to a crashing finale... this was a performance to remember. And based on the faces of the crowd (friends, competitors and strangers alike) The Winner was pretty clear for all to see. This was a VERY impressive performance!

Take note bands: the Rumble gauntlet has been thrown!

The Luxury took home the Win last night, but all the bands proved why they were selected for this competition. Truly impressive from start to finish. The crowd should be proud as well. All bands were supported well! Below is our slide show from Night 1... The fun continues tonight - Rumble Night 2!
