If there is a quality that is demonstrated by new indie music these days it's fusion and depth. Islands is not at all lacking in either category. Unusual, non-standard instrumentation, melodies that can break through music styles and deep, layered song structure are common. You may not like everything you hear from bands like Islands, but you know they are on to something good.
