Beautiful Small Machines - The DJ Stayed Home

Song from their new Album
Sounds You Need to Know

NEW ALBUM SOON - “The DJ Stayed Home,” the title track from Beautiful Small Machines unreleased LP, is set to drop this summer. In this follow-up release to the band’s debut EP, Robots in Love, their Blondie-meets-Arcade Fire sound connects with what Collected Sounds Blog describes as “a bit like Grandaddy, The Postal Service and The TIngs Tings forming a super band.” Other notable influences include: Duran Duran, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, Wilco, The Rolling Stones and 80s pop music.

Meet the Band: Beautiful Small Machines was formed in 2009 by Bree Sharp and Don DiLego in New York City. Sharp is the lead vocalist and lyricist and DiLego is the producer. He also plays almost all of the instruments on record, including electric guitar, bass, piano, drums, harmonica, cowbell and other nifty things he finds lying around. They both play acoustic guitar and share songwriting duties.

Bonus: Bree Sharp is an actress and appears on the new season of Louie C.K.'s television series which airs tonight. Don is a producer and has worked on projects for some of the east coast's best the last three years. His solo album (2013) is pretty masterful. The pair, who played The Outlaw Roadshow two years ago, are amongst the fun, dynamic people I've ever hung out with in New York. Can't wait for this record!

New Video: The 1975 - Robbers

New Music Video
First Look Stateside

NEW TODAY - Girls meets Boy. Boy and Girl fall deeply in love and then rob a liquor store together. This is a twisted love tale told by Director Tim Mattia plucks at the same guitar played by Micky and Mallory Knox (Natural Born Killers, 1994) and Bob and Diane Hughes (Drugstore Cowboy, 1989) in this dramatic music video. The video for The 1975 hits towards greater loss still at the end with the protagonist, who has been shot in an earlier sequence appears devastated by loss. We never see why but we can begin to understand.

“I got really obsessed with the idea behind Patricia Arquette’s character in True Romance when I was about eighteen,” lead singer Matthew Healy explains. “That craving for the bad boy in that film it’s so sexualised. It was something I was obsessed with. ‘Robbers’ is about a heist that goes wrong – I suppose you can read it as a metaphor – and a girl who’s obsessed with her professional killer boyfriend. It’s a romantic ideal.”

Great song and an even more brilliant music video. This is an example of both mediums work together in a complementary manner. This one's only been out for a few hours and it's a great way to start the week.

Slow Motion

As much as I love PHOX, the single for Slow Motion (off the forthcoming self-titled album on Partisan) isn't a favorite PHOX song. It has all the same parts and sounds as my favorites by them. And consequently, that's when you realize how damn good they are. The new single, while not 'a favorite' is still better than pretty much everything everyone else is doing.. Almost seems unfair how easy they make it seem.

Now stop analyzing with me and start enjoying the song and this amazing Zach Johnston-directed video ..

Animal Years - Got Nowhere To Go

WORLD PREMIERE
New Music Right Now!

Brooklyn’s Animal Years brings a fresh face to indie roots rock. Their sound straddles the line between The Avett Brothers and Kings of Leon - an odd combination butt fittingly accurate (as you can see with just one listen.) It's the right sound for right now..

Singer Mike McFadden's strong, distinct vocals are driven forward - floating on top of the instruments on this new song, a bonus track from debut album, Sun Will Rise. The Deluxe Edition of that album will be out on 5/6/14, with four never before heard bonus tracks - one of which you are listening to today. "Got Nowhere To Go," is a hail of emotion, a rising sun anthem perfect for both the commute to work and a drive out into the night for adventure. It's hard to not feel good about the road ahead hearing this!

Animal Years by Shervin Lainez

ABOUT THE BAND - McFadden (lead vocals, guitar, and banjo), who adopted the moniker Animal Years to break out of the solo singer/songwriter category, is backed by Anthony Saladino (bass), Anthony Spinnato (drums), and Matt Indellicati (guitar). McFadden released 3 solo albums while living in Baltimore, MD, before moving to New York in October 2012. When McFadden moved to Brooklyn, he recruited former bandmate Saladino, and newcomers Spinnato and Indellicati to flesh out his sound at live shows. Within a year, they've found themselves selling out venues such as NYC's Rockwood Music Hall's Stage 2.

Outlaw Roadshow Radio is Born!

The Vision for The Outlaw Roadshow was always a simple one. Find a better way to connect people with music and one other. And in doing so, Ryan Spaulding and Adam Duritz founded an ever-growing community of musicians and fans that continue to come together. The Outlaw Roadshow made repeat positive experiences for thousands coast-to-coast. First with festival shows, then with a National Tour, recorded material - and now with a radio show.

opens in a new window

The legend continues in 2014 as Ryan - founder of Ryan's Smashing Life (One of the 100 Most Influential Music Blogs in the World" per Style of Sound magazine) picks up the mantle of The Outlaw for a weekly radio program. The Outlaw Roadshow radio set will continue our good work throughout the year and keep the vision and community alive through music. It's more than just songs, live performances and a hell of a lot more than old-fashioned radio.. It's The Outlaw Roadshow Radio!

NEW VIDEO - ARCHIE POWELL & THE EXPERTS "Holes"

HOT NEW MUSIC VIDEO
Bands You Really Need to Know

In just one week one of the best rock albums of 2014 will hit store shelves. Archie Powell & The Exports are Chicago's answer to boring, lackadaisical rock. They've been near the top of my favorite live bands list for the last three years and one listen will quickly tell you why. The band debuted their new music video for "Holes" this week on Consequence of Sound. Next week go into the nearest fine record store and ask them to pick up your copy of 'Back in Black.'

About the video: the Audiotree production of Holes was filmed on location at the Emporium Arcade Bar in Chicago, Director Bryan Racine and Producer Megan McDonough have done a great job on bringing this modern telling of TRON to life. 1 UP all the way guys!

NEW VIDEO - SACCO "Kerosene"

Hot New Music Video
Sounds You Should Know

There's music people and there's movie people. But there's an emotional place somewhere in-between where hearts are won by SACCO. The three-piece have taken this music writer's world by storm the past six months - playing one of the most memorable sets of The Outlaw Roadshow New York last fall. Today we have their new video which debuted on Conan O'Brien's website earlier this week. SACCO is Augustana's John Fredericks and Andy Breihan. After relocating to Brooklyn, the pair added drummer Chris Tromley and the trio recorded their debut music - songs which they ran by our audience at The Outlaw Roadshow for the first time. Big things are in store..

Laney Jones

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Sounds You Need to Know

Out of the sea of submissions, live shows in various cities I catch each year and festival lineups, it's really only a handful of singer-songwriters that seem to grab my attention.. And that lead-in is what bring us to our latest artist spotlight.

Laney Jones is a singer-songwriter originally from Mt. Dora, FL, currently in Boston attending Berklee College of Music. (She was awarded the prestigious Grey Fox Bill Vernon Scholarship.) Raised on an exotic animal farm surrounded by an alligator-infested lake, she artfully spins tall tales of love, life and adventures from down in the swamplands. "My style is a mix of blues and bluegrass and in the past year I've had the privilege to share the stage with Alisson Krauss, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Della Mae, Donna the Buffalo, and many more," writes Jones recently in a follow-up email. What I heard in the notes of her music are a dedication to merging two worlds in music and a little magic that makes me think she will make something of herself. Her banjo play is outstanding. Her voice is angelic.

The latest record is called "Golden Road." A new band outfitted with Berklee colleagues, "Laney Jones & The Lively Spirits, are charting a tour course the band anticipates will take them national this year. This is someone you need to know!

Remembering David Lamb

BROWN BIRD

Dear friends,

Over the past year, and especially this past week, I have been so overwhelmed and grateful for the amount of love that has surrounded Dave and me throughout our life and career together. You all have posted so many beautiful stories about Dave- how humble he was, how gracious, how talented...He certainly was all those things.

Four days after Dave and I met we became bandmates, lovers and business partners, and set the tone for what our life would be for the next six years. We never imagined the amount of success we would enjoy in those years, how many incredible friendships would be forged, the experiences we would share, and nothing could have prepared us for the events of this past year.

Dave entered the battle with leukemia as only Dave could- determined, steadfast, smiling and always with his mind on our future. His incredible ability to continue writing through his struggle is something I'll forever aspire to.

This week was the toughest in the battle, as Dave's body began to shut down under the stress of a year-long fight and a sudden and aggressive leukemic relapse.

Today, surrounded by his family and so many friends, Dave peacefully let go.

Thank you for all the love you've all shown us. It helped so very much to know we had an army behind us.

Love and gratitude,
MorganEve

Seasick Mama

ARTISTS & SOUNDS YOU NEED TO KNOW

NEW YORK, NY - Seasick Mama’s new EP, Tip Top Shape, produced by David Sitek (TV on the Radio), Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet) and Peter Wade (MNDR) takes on a new sound, a new perspective, and an entirely new voice. A collection of fascinating tales and eclectic bliss delivered with a voice that will make you a believer.

What really draws me into the project is the layering of sounds and the arrangements. The only thing more beautiful than Marial Eve Moon (a sponsored model) are her unique vocals. Something tells me this band has a chance to be big this year. And I will be cheering for them!
